What is hiding in plain sight behind our vision of the American family? What do we see, and what is hidden? Attend the opening talk by Jane Gottesman, who started the foundation behind Showing (work x family). Building on Game Face: What Does a Female Athlete Look Like?, the noted exhibition and book she developed, Gottesman suggests that looking at unspoken assumptions about work and family can create opportunities for connection and strength. The Showing exhibition is a meditation on current-day America unlike you've ever seen, opening up paths to engagement, dialogue, and action around work and family issues at a time when the reality doesn't match with the accepted story.

A special event shuttle will run between FSU's Maple Street parking lot and the McCarthy Center for the 4:30 pm reception and the 5 pm opening talk.

Showing (work x family) is a 28-foot, six-screen sound and image installation photography exhibition with an original soundscape, created by the California-based foundation Working Assumptions. Showing combines a landmark commission of photography of pregnant women in the workplace, curated work by contemporary photographers examining the interplay between work and family, and new imagery by high school photography students who undertook wrkxfmly, the project’s unique assignment completed by more than 50 schools nationally.

A special event shuttle will run between FSU's Maple Street parking lot and the McCarthy Center for the opening reception and talk on November 7.

High school students: Can't join us for the opening? Contact Professor Virginia Rutter at vrutter@framingham.edu to set up a visit to FSU.
