Showing (work x family)
Showing (work x family) is an ongoing photography project about the push and pull of work and family, and its relevance to our kids, coworkers, elders, partners, and society. Presented as a screen-based exhibition for diverse public venues, Showing (work x family) reveals the intimate choreography of everyday routines and situations—a universal balancing act with no fixed equation.
The photographs offer a meticulous examination of everyday life, refined and raw expressions of mealtimes and bedtimes, commutes and carpools, calendars and keys, school-day mornings and weekend chores, childcare and grandparent shifts, single-parent households and blended families.
The project combines landmark commissioned photographs of pregnant women in the workplace, a curated selection of pictures by accomplished contemporary photographers, and works by high school students who undertook the wrkxfmly Assignment to look at how work and family overlap in their own lives.
It made me feel a new appreciation for families, and for the sacrifices that my family must have encountered.
So moving and recognizable!
