Debe Arlook is an internationally recognized photographic artist whose work blends conceptual and documentary photography. Her projects are an expression of the porous boundaries between the physical and non-physical worlds. She is the co-author of “Both Sides of the Table: Photography Portfolio Reviews Do’s & Don’ts” and is based in Santa Monica, California.

Project: one, one thousand…
one, one thousand… is a different kind of love story that reflects my sister’s unwavering devotion to her nonverbal adult son. David is diagnosed with severe autism and a rare, incurable, difficult-to-control form of epilepsy known as Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome. Our unconventional documentary is a collaboration that combines multiple artistic interpretations and Lori’s hand-written narrative to provide a voice for David and a witness to Lori’s solo experiences as a single parent. The title references Lori counting the length of his seizures to assess how long they last and whether immediate medical attention is required.
