Red Hook Community Justice Center, the nation’s first multi-jurisdictional community court, seeks to solve neighborhood problems in southwest Brooklyn through an array of innovative programs. A key focus of their work is community healing and wellness—working with those who have experienced harm and those who have engaged in harm to interrupt cycles of violence and create a safer, more resilient community. Working Assumptions has partnered with the center to develop a therapeutic workshop for teens on reparative care, in which participants creatively explore their relationship to care and safety through visual storytelling.

The National Writing Project (NWP) is a nationwide network of teachers, university faculty, researchers, writers, and community educators dedicated to improving writing and learning for all learners. Working Assumptions is collaborating with NWP to design a multi-modal lesson plan that invites educators to explore work and family through writing and photography. The lesson prompts educators to reflect on their own wellness in relation to the give-and-take of care in their professional and personal contexts.

Citizen Film, a not-for-profit production company, has partnered with Working Assumptions in conjunction with American Creed, a multiformat documentary project centered on the stories of young people working to realize their visions of America’s promise in their local communities. Select cast members received cameras from Working Assumptions and training from our teaching artists. Working Assumptions also contributed to the accompanying curriculum, which is featured on PBS LearningMedia and other educational platforms.
